When you've been in an accident - WHAT NOT TO DO
• Don’t speak to the at-fault party’s insurance company adjuster before speaking with an experienced Las Vegas car accident attorney.
• Don’t give recorded statements to anyone. Despite what the insurance adjuster says, you are not required by law to give a recorded statement to your own insurance company or the at-fault insurance company.
• Don’t sign any documents until you have spoken to your personal injury attorney.
CHOOSING YOUR ACCIDENT ATTORNEY
No matter how carefully you drive, you can’t control other drivers’ behavior on the road. Especially in the Las Vegas valley. An experienced attorney should be chosen to represent injured drivers who have suffered a motor-vehicle accident as a result of negligence or the poor judgment of others.
A Las Vegas attorney can assist in a client's medical treatment options, insurance navigation and property damage repairs. The attorney can then advocate for their personal injury clients in order to obtain fair and just compensation in courts of law.
My hope is that this newsletter will assist you in understanding your rights should you or someone you love ever need the assistance of a Las Vegas personal injury attorney.
UNINSURED DRIVERS ON THE RISE This an excerpt from an MSNBC.COM article written by reporter Alex Johnson, and filed on April 9, 2009:
“Insurance regulators and safety activists are alarmed at what they describe as a stunning rise in the number of drivers who are cutting back or even dropping their auto insurance to save money during the recession.
“It’s been a shock,” said Chris Pringle, owner of All American Insurance Agency in Little Rock, Ark., who said up to 20 percent of his clients had dropped their policies or missed payments in recent months. “I thought we were somewhat in a recession-proof business, because (auto insurance is) required for everyone to have.”
Karl Newman, president of the Northwest Insurance Council, a trade association based in Seattle, warned that “we may be looking at record numbers of uninsured motorists across the nation.”
. . .
Industry figures back up that concern. By next year, 1 of every 6 drivers on U.S. roadways is likely to be uninsured, according to the Insurance Research Council, a nonprofit group financed by the insurance industry. To calculate that figure, the council reviewed accident claims processed by insurers covering half of the nation’s drivers.”
We, at Las Vegas Injury Lawyers strongly encourage you to protect yourself and your family, maintain, and if necessary, raise your Uninsured/Underinsured and Medical Payments coverages. Don’t leave yourself unprotected from an uninsured driver.
10 WAYS TO CUT AND SHOP AUTO INSURANCE
1. Shop around and compare rates regularly
2. If you don’t compare rates every once in a while, you’ll never know if you could be paying less.
3. Increase your deductible. The higher your deductible, the lower your premium.
4. Insure your home and your car with the same carrier.According to the
Insurance Information Institute, a multi-line policy can save you up to 15 percent on both
premiums.
5. Pay your policy in a lump sum - - Extra administrative fees are often applied to payments
when you split your premium into installments (e.g. monthly, quarterly, etc.)
6. Take advantage of good driver discounts. If you haven’t had any accidents
or tickets in the last three to five years, you’re probably eligible. Don’t overpay just because your record isn’t perfect, many companies specialize in insuring different types of drivers.
7. Look for a safe vehicle car insurance discount. Many car insurers offer discounts for various safety features on your vehicle, including air bags, alarms, factory-installed mechanical seatbelts and antilock brakes.
8. Pay less when you drive less. Many car insurance companies will offer discounts on vehicles that incur low annual mileage.
9. Take advantage of good student or senior discounts. Many companies feel conscientious students and experienced senior citizens make conscientious drivers.
10. Don’t pay for coverage you don’t need. If you don’t keep a close eye on the details of your car insurance policy, you could end up paying for things you don’t need. For example, you may be a member of a car club that provides roadside assistance yet also pay for towing on your car insurance policy. |
